Now that Sportsnet is all done with their Leafs broadcasts for this season, I have a little bone to pick with the guys in the truck.
From Dictionary.com:
subheading - noun. a subordinate division of a title or heading.
Notice that a “subheading” is not “a continuation of a title or heading”. If you’ve got a title, and there are more words underneath it in a smaller font, it’s not just a handy place to put the rest of the words you couldn’t fit in the title. And for the love of god, if you’re going to spread the title across two lines, at least use the same font.
With this admonition in mind, I present the following, all from Leafs broadcasts on Sportsnet.
Exhibit A:
Exhibit 2:
And finally, Exhibit D (which is a bit nonsensical to begin with):
I’m not sure if Sportsnet is carrying any playoff games (honestly, I’m just too lazy to check). But if they are, let’s all hope they can figure this heading/subheading out. Coincidentally though, if they’re looking for an editor for this sort of thing, I’d like to volunteer my services…
