Okay, so I’m not prescient; the East gave me a little trouble.  But hey, 5 out of 8 isn’t so bad (obviously, I’m tossing the whole number-of-games thing aside).  Here’s where I went wrong:

WAS/MTL - MTL in 7 » Jaroslav Halak, after being pretty ordinary for the first four games, absolutely stood on his head.  Mike Cammalleri also came up big, posting 5 goals and 10 points.  The entire Habs team was impressive in climbing out of their 3-1 hole, storming out of the gate each time - a blueprint of how a desperate team should play.  Alex Ovechkin and Nick Backstrom: why, oh why did I pick you in my pool?

NJ/PHI - PHI in 5 » Ilya Kovalchuk mustered 6 points in 5 games, but only 2 of those were goals.  Not exactly what you want from your high-priced (overpriced?) rental sniper.  And Zach Parise chipped in with exactly 1 goal.  Don’t get me wrong; Brian Boucher played a great series, and is hot at just the right time for Philly.  But Jacques Lemaire retired right after the Devils were eliminated; does this mean that new things will be in the works in Joisey?

BUF/BOS - BOS in 6 » Boston didn’t exactly knock Buffalo’s socks off offensively - 16 goals in 6 games (including one overtime winner) is not the mark of a scoring juggernaut.  But the Sabres could muster even fewer, and Tuukka Rask did his job well, outshining Olympic silver medallist Ryan Miller (thank you very much, John Ferguson Jr.).  How much will the Round 2 return of Marc Savard help the Bruins’ offence?
